When is Work Satisfying?

You know how sometimes you have a lot of work to do and you think, if I can just get this done, I’ll give myself a little reward? Well, I have a new opportunity to spend more time on my ceramics right now, and I’m feeling really inspired to work hard!!

I know things will gradually come into a routine, but now is when I feel like evaluating and creating systems to make some of the ‘paper work’ easier, and organizing my studio space to make it more efficient and more accessible. There’s official things to do like filing sales tax, updating my resume and especially my website, daily postings to Instagram, and applying to new shows, but mostly I just want to get in the studio and MAKE things!

I’m feeling all sculpturey with divergent ideas about giant installations

and small, intimate wall pieces. They are so different, yet both inspired by the sea.

But wait there’s more…more African pieces to help save the Elephants!

I still love these vessel forms but I think there are some wall pieces in there too.

Then there is community with more connecting, helping, and coming together.

National Clay Week is October 12th -14th, and I’m inviting everyone to a special community event on Saturday, October 13th–The Soup Bowl Soiree! Piles of beautiful handmade bowls, donated by friends, fellow artists, students and teachers, will be for sale. When someone buys one of these lovely bowls they become part of a larger equation.
Along with the bowl comes a dinner of soup and bread–donated by Good Earth Natural Foods–a little wine, an opportunity to hang out and eat, chat with other like minded people, and some satisfaction knowing that all of the proceeds of these sales are going to our local SF-Marin food bank to help feed hungry people in our area.

Last year, much to my surprise we managed to raise $749, so this year we’re raising the bar and going for $1000! Every time you use that bowl you’ll know that you are connected to a community-the artist who made it, the people you helped with your donation, and others who did the same thing.

You’re all invited so, please come!

I’ve always known that when the work you have to do is what you want to do, it isn’t a chore any more, and I sure hope this feeling stays with me for a long time!
