Opening
As we creep along trying to make sense of our current, ongoing situations so many things are unknown. The world is trying to return to a level of familiarity–a bit more work for people, some small, safe gatherings, and more opportunities to support our local businesses with some curbside shopping. But some things are unchanging–traveling is still hard. Both my parents are older and live far away. I would love to go visit them soon, but it just feels too risky both for them and for me.
However, it does seem like the right time to try our ceramics classes again! I’m including a little video full of explanation about how it should go. This is the first time running class this way so, we’ll have to be flexible. I’m sure weird little unforeseen things will come up!
It’s helpful to have tools to work on your projects but, you won’t have access to all the tools here at the studio. Fortunately, anything can be a tool if it helps you. There are a few basic things that I think will be the most useful–something to scratch the surface with, a smoothing tool, and something to help get into small areas. A fork is a great scratching tool, an old credit type card is useful for smoothing, and any smooth wooden or plastic ‘stick’ can help in tight areas. But your fingers are always the best tools!
