New Year and New Plans!

Happy New Year everyone! This last year rocketed by with a mix of opportunities, changes, some successes and some disappointments. All of it needs a moment just so I can evaluate what happened!

I started off early in the year with the opportunity to get professional feedback on my local sand pieces. This led me to develop and refine my first line of functional work-‘Coastal’. Doing that led me to develop another line of work-‘Color Block’.
The process of developing something that I keep on making instead of small batches of exploratory work has been really interesting. Maybe I’ll write a newsletter about that whole process later!  The good news is that both lines continue to grow and develop.

Part way through the year I let go of doing our local Farmers’ Market. It’s always lovely to see so many people that I’ve connected with over the years but it takes a lot of time every week and the rewards are very small.

I also reduced my classes in the latter part of the year so there would be more time to make work for my expanding wholesale contacts.
Working really hard to make more and bigger batches of work than I did previously is strangely satisfying. There’s this gratification when you drop off eighteen mugs to a store and they tell you two weeks later that they need more! The pay off is half what I would sell them for myself but the plus is exposure to different customers.

It’s all a balancing act-making, evaluating, selling, teaching and finally revving up to do it all again.

Don’t forget to check out the new class session in the ‘Classes and Events’ page!
