Going smaller is getting BIGGER!
It’s been almost a year since we began this roller coaster ride of starting and stopping our activities because of Covid. We’ve had to adapt in so many ways as things changed or went away.
As stores shut, shows were postponed and fairs quit being available, I realized I could let go of the pressure to do more, and to get bigger and better all the time. I could just enjoy exploring ideas and materials that interested me. It was play time!
But, after awhile the need for some income brought me back to reality and I had to start looking around for new, local opportunities. I started selling at the Fairfax Farmers’ Market and it turned out to be so much better than I expected! A couple of times, I only sold one mug-just enough to cover the booth fee-but by the end of the season, I had earned enough to make it totally worthwhile.
The best part of that experience was seeing so many people I haven’t seen in a long time. It became a place for renewing old connections and making lots of new ones and I will definitely do it again this upcoming season.
My husband and I also decided we would host our own Open Studio. We included our friend Michelle Hernandez and put the word out. What a wonderful surprise this venture turned out to be! More people stopped by during the two days of our show than I ever get during Marin Open Studios.
I’ve realized in looking back over this long period of business-as-non-usual, that connecting with people is the real key to this new success. Downsizing my ambition has put me back in touch with my local community. These are the wonderful people that supported me when I started out and they’re still here!
These connections, both old and new, have lead directly to new opportunities and commissions. I currently have pieces for sale at Good Earth Natural Foods here is Fairfax and I’m also going to participate in our local pop-up Valentine’s show. It will be happening Saturday and Sunday, February 13th and 14 at 31 Bolinas Road from 11-5. I won’t be there in person because we need to keep the number of bodies down but please come by and support your local artists!
I’d like to give special thanks to all the wonderful, local people who have been so supportive in so many ways over this crazy time.
THANK YOU!!!!

I just LOVE the word you do. Okay, I’m biased but I try to be as objective as I can.
