Getting Ready
I spent at least an hour vacuuming up spiders and cobwebs in my studio earlier this afternoon just in case I have any archniphobes visiting me next weekend during Marin Open Studios. I felt a little bad wreaking this devastation on them but I’m sure there are others waiting to take advantage of this environmental opportunity–but hopefully they won’t move in too soon! This is the first time I’ve actually vacuumed in my studio, once in a while it gets a rather weak rendition of dusting but this was the real thing. I did use a shop vac with a HEPA filter so I wouldn’t die of silicosis however. Now comes the touch up painting, or at least the corners that didn’t quite get covered when I added my teaching room last year (maybe two years?).
All of this activity is preparation for opening my studio to the public which makes me look at the space with new eyes. It’s amazing how I can get acclimated to mess and yet a clean space is so much nicer! It will be interesting to see it when the tables are moved out and all the art is installed and lit. Now I just have to finish the last few pieces…and hope I have enough, but not too many.
Along these same lines, The Potting Shed has kindly agreed to be an artist/business sponsor during this year’s Open Studios and has a little preview of my work in their front window display. So go and see their wonderful, beautiful wares and while you are there check on my Tree Goblets. I have three more in my kiln right now but it’s still too hot to open. I was firing it until 9:30 last night and I hope everything will come out beautifully!
Last but not least, I have the privilege of being the featured artist for the month of May in Artists Culture Magazine. I had a fun, hour long interview with Steve Bryan a little while ago and he has magically turned it into this article complete with photos. You can check it out at www.artistsculture.com.
Hope to see you at my studio May 9/10th between 11-6. It’s at 106 Dominga Ave in Fairfax and don’t forget there will be strawberries and wine!
