It’s one month into my new adventure and I’m definitely still finding my feet! There are still moments I think of putting things on hold because I have to go to work for the next three days and then realizing, yes! you do go to work for the next three days–for yourself! It’s pretty exciting knowing that everything I do is my decision and the rewards or failings are all mine to figure out. A lot of what I’ve been working on initially is the business end of things. I’ve been figuring out new class offerings[…]

Am I Living the Dream?
Happy New Year Everyone! This year we’re all going to shine!! In the previous newsletter, I mentioned that I had some exciting news to share–well, here it is–I am officially a full time ceramic artist!I quit my part time job at the end of 2025 and now I’m just living my dream of doing everything ceramics. It’s super exciting and at the same time a bit scary because now I’m either fully self-employed or unemployed, depending on how you look at it.There will be lots of changes and new things to try out. But for now,[…]
I’ll Keep It Brief
This time of year is often fraught with pressures of every kind and coming from all sides. I don’t want to add to the overload so I’ll keep this brief! If you missed our Open Studio in November, You can still come see a whole bunch of our newest work at the Fairfax Craft Faire! This is our favorite fair of the year-full of holiday cheer, lots of vendors and even a ukulele orchestra! Next year is going to be a big one! There will be new kinds of classes as well as the familiar favorites[…]
Thanks Universe!
This morning I had a little reminder of the quiet, magical world before people wake up, before the scheduled day starts and before everything becomes familiar and usual. There was a class firing to get started and I usually begin about 5:30 in the morning. It’s always dark when I go light the kiln and this morning was no exception. It’s been a few weeks since I’ve run a firing and somehow, it felt a little new. It was so beautiful out. The sky was totally clear with a few planets visible. The moon was waning but[…]

Did Life Just Hit Overdrive?
My knee is undoubtedly mended and solidly back together. Every week is a little improvement and now I just have to get stronger. During my last physical therapy session I got measured for leg strength symmetry. Basically my recovering leg if half as strong as my good leg. Wow! I didn’t realize it was that weak but when I try to do things with only that leg, I can really tell. So I have ever more difficult exercises to do and longer walks to take every day. I can tell it’s working but man, some of[…]
It Sure Feels Like Summer!
It sure feels like summer around here and since I haven’t been working, I feel a bit like a kid again! Summer makes me think of care free days, watermelon and when I was a teenager-sun bathing and fashion mags! Now it’s all sunscreen, fans and avoiding the heat. But I still love watermelon. I’m able to walk with one crutch now and I’m feeling stronger in my injured leg all the time. I spend a lot of time thinking about how I’m walking as I move around. It’s pretty funny, I never had to concentrate[…]
Things are Getting Better all the Time!
I’d like to offer another big, humble thank you to everyone who has been helping me with everything in my life! Recently it’s been a medley of watering the garden, grocery shopping for me and even assistance with taxes. Not to mention the always available, on-call help my family graciously offers. Thanks everyone! And with extra help from the studio elves and students, the kilns are getting loaded and unloaded and everyone’s work is getting fired. So this class session is wrapping up almost on time. I’m not sure about the timing of the next session[…]
