It Only Took a Second
A little over a week ago while doing some much needed spring yard cleanup, my life abruptly stopped–it only took a second.
While standing in the bed of our pickup, pruning a tree in our front yard, I fell out of the truck onto the sidewalk and broke my knee. It was so fast and unexpected, shocking really. The branch I was leaning on broke and a fraction of a second later I was on the sidewalk. Ughh!!
I could tell it was bad and I felt like an idiot! I tried to move, to stand up and figure out a way to get to the house but realized immediately that THAT was not happening. Luckily I had my phone so I called my husband in the house, “can you come help me?

After some very painful shenanigans we got into the house and finally to the hospital.
The upshot is a rather serious break through both my Tibia and Fibula right across the wide plateau just under my knee.
After lying on the couch with a broken leg for a week, waiting for the swelling to go down, I finally had surgery. Now after being pinned and plated back together I have six weeks of NO weight bearing and then a further three to five months of limited activity!

Everything has changed, everything stops. No part time work at Good Earth, no making ceramics, no teaching, no wholesale work to stores, no Open Studio-no income.
I know this will pass but it will take time—so much more time than I want it to! Right now, I’m the only earner in the house and I’m not earning any more. So, at the suggestion of friends and family I’m turning to crowd funding.
It’s hard to ask but, for anyone who can help monetarily in any way we have a Go Fund Me page

I’ve been so touched by the immediate help from so many people! Family members started organizing medical equipment I didn’t even know I would need-but I absolutely did. Others brought groceries, food and flowers, while my students have been watering my garden and checking on the studio for me. My wonderful friend and studio assistant, Delia, has been keeping everyone’s work damp and keeping me sane with her guidance through this whole situation. Last but not least my family has been doing everything for me since the moment this happened. It’ll keep you humble!
