This piece is inspired by elephant tusks themselves. It is incised like the beautiful art works created by the people of the Kingdom of Ife. It is finished with minerals and wood ash.
It was made with grasses embedded into the clay that burn out while firing. It’s constructed of different clays and finished with stain, minerals and wood ash.
This piece was inspired by a fragment of an ancient stone tool used by the Nok tribe of Nigeria. It transformed with the idea of the snares that are placed everywhere and severely injure and kill many different animals including elephants. While it doesn’t look like the snares, it captures the brutality of that way of hunting.
