All my life the killing of African elephants for their ivory has been an issue, and I’m appalled that it continues to be a problem to this day. In an effort to do some small part to mitigate this, I started this body of work. These pieces are inspired by ancient African tools and while I’m not recreating the tools, I’m using the shapes to make vessel forms. They are finished with minerals, clay, sand, wood ash and stains. Part of the proceeds from these pieces will go to elephant conservation groups in Africa.
