Dive into Opening the Mountain with its curators and get to know MarinMOCA’s new neighbors in San Rafael. Presented in collaboration with Art Works Downtown’s 2nd Fridays Art Walk, this is a special opportunity for creative fun with friends old and new.

Featuring pop-up holiday shopping with Shoshana Parry, a Fairfax-based ceramic artist whose Coastal series beautifully captures Marin’s landscapes. Using sands from Stinson, Agate, and Rodeo Beaches, her work reflects the textures and connections to Mount Tam and its watershed — central to Marin’s sense of place.

Hot cocoa, tea, and cookies will be served!

Time for the Fairfax Festival!!

The Fairfax Festival kicks off the start of summer around here and it’ll be happening June 8th and 9th. My husband Sam Parry and I will be sharing a booth so you’ll be able to see both new ceramics and beautiful paintings! We’ll be in the Arts and Crafts section in the redwoods near the main stage. Due to demand, I’m adding a Monday night class and it will follow the same structure as the Tuesday class. I’m also planning to take a week off sometime during the building section of this session. New Year, New Classes!

There will be two different types of classes offered this session, so please read carefully!!

Both class session will last ten weeks with one week off for drying our work, one week off for firing, and the usual eight weeks of instruction

Glaze Exploration Classes

Eight Week Session – $280

Saturdays: 9:00-11:00am, January 21st – March 25th

Mondays: 7:00-9:00pm, January 23rd – March 27th

In this class we will explore the complex and sometimes confounding world of glaze and surface treatment. It will be structured differently to the regular ceramics classes with a concentration on experimenting and understanding. Everyone will spend the first week making test tiles and then we will spend the next four weeks testing surfaces. I will be firing every week so you will have feedback regularly. After that, there will be one week to build a piece of your choice and then a week for finishing it with all your newly gained knowledge!

Last Class Session of the Year!

New classes are coming in September but there will be a few changes, both good and bad. With PG&E’s most recent rate hike, the cost of firing my kilns has gone up a fare bit and clay has increased from around $16 a bag to $24 a bag. So, you know where this is going… I have to increase my prices too. The good news is that this session is extra long so you can get all your holiday gifts made, and I’ll be adding a new kind of class on Saturdays! It’s designed to be more immersive with four hours of class time and a Show-and-Tell on the fifth week.

In-Person Classes

Eleven Week Session – $350

Mondays: 7:00-9:00pm, September 12th -December 5th

Tuesdays: 7:00-9:00pm, September 13th – December 13th

This will be the last session of the year and it will have extra classes! We will have not only two extra building classes, but and extra glazing class too. There are a couple of weeks off during this session so even though we have eleven classes it will take 13 weeks to complete the session. The costs above reflect the new cost of classes plus extra for the lengthened session.

This will be the last session for the year and probably into early next year. In an effort to keep us all safe in these times, masks will be mandatory and I will continue to have the door and window open during class. This means that it will inevitably get cold! For that reason, I’ve scheduled one of the classes in the daytime. I can take 4 people for hand building and 1 person familiar with throwing on the wheel in each class.

During this session we will continue with Zoom ceramics class! We’ll explore making ceramics at home safely with a virtual meeting once a week and scheduled glazing times later in the session. I will offer a  progress check with questions and answers every week and demonstrations of techniques as needed.  We’ll concentrate on looking, evaluating, gaining control of your work and expressing yourself.

This class is a self-paced, work on your own option. It includes two glazing classes and our show-&-tell final, a bag of clay, glazes, and all the firings. It is only available for advanced students who have had class with me before.
Glazing opportunities will be arranged closer to the time.

10 Days of the ACGA!

I’m part of the ACGA -Association of Clay and Glass Artists of California, and we usually host a big art fair of very high caliber work in Palo Alto. Of course this year it didn’t happen, so instead we are having a fabulous online sale starting August 1st and lasting for 10 days. You can go to the website and see all kinds of fantastic ceramic and glass work! If you choose to buy anything, individual artists are donating a percentage of their sales to a charity of their choice. If you want to buy any of my work, I will be donating to the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. They do an amazing job helping wild elephants. Fairfax Farmers’ Market

If you want to see the new functional ware I’ve been experimenting with, stop by the Fairfax Farmers’ Market! I’ll have a booth there every Wednesday from July 1st through October 14th, from 4-8. Masks are required and I have plenty of hand sanitizer!

During this session we will start our first Zoom ceramics class! We’ll explore making ceramics at home safely with a virtual meeting once a week and scheduled glazing times later in the session. I will offer a demonstration of a technique every week and a progress check with questions and answers.  We’ll concentrate on looking, evaluating, gaining control of your work and expressing yourself.

Marin Open Studios

Virtual Studio Visit

Normally, I would be hosting  an open studio next weekend, May 9th and 10th with Marin Open Studios. Sadly, the in-person visits have been canceled but, a virtual show is up on their website. https://marinopenstudios.org  This is a quick peek at some of what I’ve been working on.

Fairfax Craft Faire

Join me December 7th from 11-5 at the Fairfax Pavilion along with a bunch of other fantastic artists and crafts people. I’ll have lots of new work available to fulfill all your holiday gift shopping! Hope to see you there!

The Soup Bowl Soiree is Coming!!

Join me for this National Clay Week event that is part Open Studio, Sale, Fundraiser and Community Dinner Party and will feature ‘Soup Bowls’ made specifically for the event. When you buy one of these glorious and original bowls, crafted by a different local artist you get to stay for dinner! Enjoy some soup, bread and a glass of wine while hanging out and chatting with the artists and other like minded people.

All proceeds go to Marin Food Bank to help feed hungry people in our area.

Fairfax Art Walk

Join me and fellow artist Kathy Piscioneri this Friday for the third Fairfax Art Walk! We will be at the Marin Holistic Health & Acupuncture office at 85 Bolinas Road. This session will run a tiny bit different than usual. After the four weeks of building, we will have a one week break while I visit my mom in Montana. Then it’s back to normal with one week of glazing and our usual end of session ‘show and tell’.

‘Ceramic Centric’ at The Foundry

The Foundry Art Centre is excited to present “Ceramic Centric”, a juried exhibition of thirty-three ceramic artists from twelve states, to the community this April 12, 2019. Local Artist and owner of The Reese Gallery, Ruth Reese, curated this exhibition that explores modern interpretations of the ceramic medium. Sculptural and utilitarian pieces alike will both amuse and awe viewers.

I am very excited to be part of this show! It’s a little far away in St. Charles Missouri to go to the opening but my piece ‘Tusk’ is there instead!

It’s time for Marin Open Studios again!  I have the honor of being one of the artists chosen to represent MOS during their 25th anniversary year. This means in addition to being acknowledged at the main gallery in the Town Center, I’m part of a pop-up show at the Bon Aire Shopping Center in Green Brae, so swing by and see that work when you have a chance.

Stop by, say Hi and see my latest work. I’ve been working like crazy on my African Vessel series and having so much fun because they’re half way between sculpture and functional work. The last five are in the kiln right now–they’ll practically still be warm on Saturday morning! I’ve also been making a lot of big bowls, and fluted cups (of course) with a new beautiful and indescribable glaze combo invented by one of my students. And there will be strawberries, wine, sparkling water, and chocolate drops to help us celebrate!
